May 23, 2009: My husband and I took this notebook on a whirlwind two day tour of New York City. He had researched out all of the places we'd visit ahead of the time, so we just used this book's detailed maps (complete with accurate NYC subway maps) to get us around town. We also used it to find our way to a lunch destination fifteen blocks from our hotel on foot.
The beauty of these City Notebooks is not in the information they provide (though it is just enough to get you to where you want to be); it's in the information and memories you're able to leave behind. Each time we visit the City we'll add to it -- which hotels we visit, which restaurants we dine at, which plays or ballets we see... It's not the traditional travel guide that lays out all of the options before you; it's the travel guide and memoir you write as you go, small enough to fit in your pocket and informational enough to keep you from getting lost.
